Getting Started With Worms

Have you ever wanted to raise your own earth worms? Earth worms are important soil creatures that enhance the quality of your soil. These under ground tunnelers gently till and aerate your soil. Read up on getting started with worms.

Cooking With a Rocket Stove

Percolator on top of rocket stove.
There is hardly any smoke when making coffee on top of a rocke stove.

Do you like to cook outdoors? You may want to consider adding a rocket stove to your tool set. I’ve found they are great to take along when camping. Just add a percolator to make hot coffee (I have found 15 minutes of percolating to be a good length of time for coffee.) Or add a cast iron skillet and fry up some bacon and eggs.

Rocket stoves also come in handy when the power goes out. You might want to practice at home before a power outage or a camping trip when there is no pressure.

Why We Homestead

There was a recent news story about an amateur seed library being shutdown. I have to agree with seed savers who characterized this action as:

misguided and overzealous

In the mean time, I take this as encouragement to grow my own food and save my own seeds.
